I've never heard the La Scalas but do recall the Maggies producing a coherent full range sound from top to bottom with a great sense of stage width and depth. I drove them with a 200 watt Marsh amp.

I don't recall what I paid for mine but remember thinking they sounded as good as anything else I've had. They are visually huge, however. No getting around that. And they need to be pulled out at least three to four feet from the wall behind them, imo.

If you get them, and they're functioning properly, my guess is you'll be rather elated with the purchase and wonder how it is that a mere $300 or $400 can get you such wonderful sound.
