Who said anything about taking inductor spacing and orientation off the table? Not me. I hope you're not inferring otherwise.
Sound physics is one thing, but you can't truly characterize mutual coupling (or lack thereof) in this context unless a prototype is built and spacing and orientation are experimented with. A lot of variables here.
Anyways, let's not be making definitive statements like multiple flat inductors are "WRONG"....unless we know the particulars.
