The problem ultimately was that though Amar Bose's idea that most of the sound heard in a live environment probably was basically true, his implementation of the idea didn't work and couldn't work. It assumes an anechoic recording played back in an appropriate setting. And real recordings either have the reverberant field already recorded or have an artificial implementation done by the recording engineer. So he was bouncing the bounce, an added distortion. But the salesmanship was brilliant.
