I suspect this design was done by experimentation. I've never seen anything written on it. The old Dynaco A35(and A50) did it with a stuffed port in a divider for a single closed box. But it didn't get the port like affect of separate boxes with a damped vent. Then again the damped port between the boxes feed a very narrow space between the boxes and the space has great area so the 'port' between the boxes is highly damped in a way like a Dynaco A25 or variovent.hat the dynaco designs(both A25 and A35) did was to produce a 'closed' box with the same box resonance as without the driver and stuffed port but with a tighter ,lower Q(damping). I wouldn't be surprised the Naim might be the same if you added the two box volumes together but this is a guess.
