You don't think that the reactive load of a passive crossover isn't more prone to sonic affects than the low level circuits of an active crossover?
By the way I do use a passive 80 Hz crossover to 18" woofers but that's because it's a passive design ONLY for my woofers and main speakers that was done by the designer of the entire system and it's very good. And it's because I don't know how to do active crossovers but if I could design(and could afford it - I'm retired) I'd not only do the lower crossover active but the upper one also. I have no doubt as good as my custom passive crossover is the equivalent active one would easily better it.
