Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

So all one needs is 3 more drivers/enclosures and a complex crossover

Yeah, this is cool, and the Nautilus enclosure design is a unique concept, but it hardly makes a good speaker by itself. There are plenty of ways for DIY'ers to obtain equivalent performance for a lot less trouble and money. Rigidity would certainly be a major concern for the bass enclosure.

3D printing can be a powerful tool, but it isn't miraculous. There is so much more to building a decent speaker than making a funky box.

I think horns and waveguides are more reasonable choices for the enterprising builder to get started, and some already have. But if you're up for an ultimate challenge, this Nautilus construction would qualify. Actually, concentrating on all the upper enclosures would make more sense, as that is the area that best responds to radical acoustic treatment.

Peace,
Tom E
