I have been a sealed box advocate for decades, but about 11 years ago I started transforming all 3 of my systems to tubes. This has rendered my speakers to be of bass-reflex design for efficiency sake. Being fairly new to the bass-reflex design I am puzzeled by the different configurations. Mainly the front vs. rear porting ideas. Also my living room system has large 12" 3-ways with a rear slot or vent at the bottom rear of the cabinet about 3" tall and 15" wide(entire width of cabinet less the side panels thickness.
Anyway what is the theories behind the different configurations. I get the calculated port size, but is the location important? Also is the vent a whole other thory over a round port?
