I had an interesting experience with B&W speakers about five years ago. I wanted to buy new speakers and I thought I wanted B&W because a friend lent me his very old 805 Matrix speakers and they sounded a little better than my powered Dynaudio BM6A Mk II studio monitors. I took a friend with me to our local high-end audio store that carried B&W and we listened to the PM1, the 803D and 804D. The 803 and 804 were both floor standing speakers and surprisingly we both liked the little PM1 speakers better than the larger, much more expensive floor standing speakers. A couple of months later I went back and bought the little PM1 speakers and they still sound great. I also bought a pair of Thiel CS3.7 speakers a few months later, but I still occasionally install PM1's in my system for a change of pace. The little PM1 speakers sound very nice in a near-field listening configuration and they have exceptional bass even without a subwoofer. For some odd reason, my larger floor standing CS3.7's require a subwoofer to reproduce bass properly in my listening room.
