it's a two-and-a-half way design like the Polk LSi9. The lower woofer operates only below 200 hz to supplement bass where the wavelengths are far longer (five feet!) than the driver spacing.
Otherwise, the drivers are small and tightly spaced together for optimum directivity and blending.
