B&W PM1 Speakers

I bought a pair of these cute little B&W speakers in 2012 and then I upgraded to Thiel CS3.7 speakers a few months later. Just for kicks I decided to set up the PM1 speakers in an extreme near-field listening configuration. Wow! Did I get a surprise! These things sound awesome with simply holographic imaging and excellent bass response. If you want to hear a soundstage that will simply blow you away, try placing a small set of quality speakers well into the listening room away from walls in an extreme near-field listening configuration. The speakers completely disappear and the soundstage is three-dimensional. It's really amazing. Also, there's no need for a subwoofer with these PM1's up close like this.

I'm using my TASCAM DA-3000 as a digital player with a Crown XLS-1500 Class D amplifier to drive the speakers. I bought the amplifier a couple of years ago when they went on sale for $199. It may not be the best sounding amplifier in the world but in this situation it blows me away. The Crown has volume controls, which makes it possible to connect the DA-3000 directly without a control preamplifier in-between. Here's what this setup looks like.

Try it! You might be blown away, too. ;-)
