Ultra Cheap Good Sounding Speaker

Believe it or not, a Bose 201 series III speaker make for a very good sounding speaker when the tweeter & coupling capacitor is upgraded. The 6.5" speaker has no bass/mid crossover and gently slopes off the high frequency response.
The poor stock tweeter was replaced with vintage Audax TMO25Fs and an Obbligato 6uF paper/oil capacitor replaced the poor electrolytic capacitor.

I paid $40 + $20 shipping for speakers and $25 for tweeters. $16 for pair of capacitors.

All for $100, it makes a good sounding pair of 'starter' speakers.

Vintage Audax TMO25F are rare on eBay. Most new cheap 8 ohm tweeters with an FS of 2K sounds poor including the many offerings from Parts Express up to $50 each. For a few more dollars from what I paid, a pair of quality Audax TW025AO tweeters are available at Madisound for $30 each.
