Speaker (?) problem

My left speaker sounds hollow and lacks dynamics on many songs. This problem is extremely similar to one described in this forum four years ago (see link), sans that poster's "inner ear problem" and the fact that I have not yet done any polarity switching. What I have done is a frequency tone check of my left speaker to determine that all the drivers are working fine and lots of speaker re-positioning. This is not a recent problem. It is much worse on some music but always there.

My speakers are Meadowlark Ospreys shotgun bi-wired at the speaker end. The Ospreys are 1st order cross-over speakers.

==> Can I test for incorrect polarity of the highs only (or lows only) by swapping the pos and neg cables at that speaker-end position (hi/low only) without causing damage? There are three drivers (tweeter, mid, woofer) in the Ospreys.

I ask because one of the responses in the original thread mentions that drivers apparently out of phase may cause problems but does not go into specifics. This after the original poster said his sound improved significantly. Thanks!
