The biggest drawback to the stock woofer is too small of a cab. The added volume of the bigger cab seems to go a long way towards remedying this. Using the original driver eliminates the need to change the crossover.
If you must go with another woofer, WinISD will give you the optimal enclosure volume for sealed or ported.
