Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

RE: Reference 3A Veena?

First of all, there is no ideal room size; only loudspeakers that work ideally within specific boundaries. There are, however ideal room shapes but that is a topic for another day.

Generally speaking, floor standing speakers have bass drivers which 'couple' to the floor boundary providing bass re-enforcement. Smaller bookshelf models on stands obviously do not share in this phenomena. They usually have smaller bass drivers as well so they move less air and exhibit less bass which gives them their great mid-range sound.

I have heard both the models you have referred to in Tash Goka's personal listening space in his home and they both sounded quite wonderful. Quite different as well which would be expected from very different cabinetry. In the final analysis it comes down to the laws of physics which apply perfectly to sound transmission. If a fuller sound with greater bass extension turns your wheels then go for the Veenas. If golden mids are what turns you on, then I would recommend the De Capos. Tash builds great loudspeakers so you can't really go too wrong here.
