The audio industry produces gear that performs much, much better than the gear of 50 years ago.
Yes, there is surely a lot of cheap crap available in big box stores but quality solid-state and tube gear continues to get better as we learn from previous successes and failures.
I would put my tubed amplifiers and pre-amp up against ANY designs from 50 years ago.
I assure you there would be no contest in the categories of tonality, dynamics, signal to noise, resolution etc. etc. etc.
I do love the look and feel of vintage gear but most need serious upgrades to compete with modern components.
