They sound alive even at 70 dbs or less.
I've always had speakers that required they be played to loud to sound their best, Dynaudio Contour 1.8MKII, Magpan MGIII, Fried H2 & B2's, Fried G3's,
Apogee Caliper's weren't as bad as the other's but needed a lot of space around them to sound their best.
A pair of JTMs would fill your requirements. A plus is that you can sit only a few feet in front of them.
Granted they don't look impressive but when I first heard them I sold my Dynaudio 1.8MKII's for $1,000.00 to buy them. Then Ronnie built me a pair of subs and swapped out the JTM cabinets for a pair of JSM cabinets for the subs for no additional fee.
There not cheap speakers for what they look like but I don't listen to looks.
You know of the magic of Quads in the mid range?
These speakers have that and that magic in the bass.
Without out having to play them at ball park listening levels.
Or Dynaudio listening levels.
