Sound is transmitted through air as air is the medium. Air also diffuses sound and moving air can slow or speed up sound but air does not absorb sound. Furniture, carpeting etc, absorbs sound as in it is not reflected back but rather transformed into heat energy.
If air really absorbed sound; then where does it go after it has been absorbed, what does it become?
Please don't tell me sound heats the air. I may become ill.
