Our friend from France expressly asked for suggestions that were not stand alone (floor standers) and yet a few of the inmates have suggested just that.

Granted monitors and book shelf loudspeakers rarely come with 12" drivers or the "deep bass" our friend is looking for.

$4000.00 should be plenty for a pair of good monitors on stands, decent speaker cables and a punchy little sub.

All of this gear is available in Europe so I don't really see the need for shopping abroad. Shipping big heavy boxes over-seas will certainly negate any savings to be had buying in North America.
