RE: What characteristics of an amp and speakers determine (read on)

Among the many variables that determine the 'speed' of an amplifier is the source of electricity. The power cord supplying the amplifier is critical and to a great extent determines the sound of the amplifier itself. Many may dispute this but slew rate and rise time are affected substantially by the speed at which current can be drawn from the wall outlet.
Advertised specs for any given amplifier are optimized and measured using premium power cords and commercial grade power conditioners and not the cheap power cords usually supplied simply plugged into a convenient outlet.

If you have difficulty getting your head around this postulate then consider this. Amplifer power supplies do not make their own electricity. The performance of an amplifier or any component for that matter is dependent on how well it's power supply is enabled to perform and that is totally dependent on the electricity it is fed.

Your sound system will only perform as well as the weakest component in the audio chain. I include power cords, ICs and speaker cables as components.

Cheers.
