Best amp for Merlin VSM-MMe?

Hi,
I've searched the archives, but haven't found too many answers yet.
I had VSM-MM in the past which worked well with the Berning ZH270, but those amps are getting hard to find and expensive since they are no longer made.

Pre-amp is a deHavilland UltraVerve II (tubed).
Currently auditioning Channel Islands D-100 amps. I've been told the damping factor of these amps might be too high for the Merlin speakers. I've only had the speakers a short time, but I think I can hear the effects of this.

Solid state or or tubes, all suggestions from Merlin owners welcome.
Reasonably priced please. I know the Joule amps are the ultimate, but way out of my price range.
