I used "good old cheap Kimber" on my 2Ci's to start out with. Not bad, but was eventually blown away by a much more expensive set of Wireworld Equinox (bi-wired). Better bass, snap, punch and more open soundstage with the Wireworlds. The Vandersteens always sounded better the more my system improved and matured.
