Re: Advice on Speaker Purchase ($2k)

I have similar musical tastes to the original poster and listen to mainly indie and rock. I recently auditoined a pair of JMR Twins along with some Spendor s3/5's. I found, with solid state electronics, I like the Spendors more than the Twins. With tubes, however, I liked the Twins better.

The Twins had more of a bottom end, but both speakers were very warm and had a great full and musical sound. I thought the Spendors actually were a bit punchier and had a little clearer midrange while still retaining the warmth and musicality of the Twins. However, when paired with tubes, I preferred the Twins. The midrange was really awesome.

Since I don't plan on upgrading my solid state amp right now, the Spendors came home with me, but both were outstanding speakers, especially at their prices. Something higher up in the JMR line would definetely be worth looking into.

Despite what many say about Spendors in general, I find them very enjoyable to listen to for rock music as well as many other kinds of music. I think something in the Spendor line might be worth a listen as well.
