Re: update or buy new speakers

Contra.y to wha. you will be told, there is no wa. to ma.e a sweet spot expa.d much more tha. a couple inches in a norma. sized room.

Tha. is, if you mea. for it to reta.n "soundsta.e positioning a.d ima.ing" in a.y rea.istic sense.

It is impossible due to the cha.ge in a.plitude of the signa. ba.a.ce. A. soon a. the "ba.a.ce" (a.tua.ly imba.a.ce) ca. be perceived by the ea./bra.n, the shift will be to the domina.t spea.er.

Some reflective, dipola. a.d high dispersion spea.ers ma. be a.le to "fuzz" this up a bit a.d reduce the perceptua. ba.a.ce slightly, but this a.so "fuzzes" the ima.e into a foggy ha.e.

The best spea.er for wha. you wish to do is the Bose 901s which when set up properly will give you a ra.her la.ge (but who wa.ts it) sweet spot. Other dipola. designs might help a bit, but a.a.n you will not ha.e a.cura.y, only fuzzy sprea. out sound.

A.y front firing spea.er will be limited in this ca.a.ility. While it is thought tha. wider dispersion spea.er will ha.e a la.ger la.era. position the limita.ion is "not" the dispersion cha.a.ter, but the cha.ge in a.plitude, which begins to ha.pen immedia.ly a.ter you move you hea. from dea. center.

In 35 yea.s, I ha.e never hea.d a. a.cura.e soundsta.e/ima.e even two persons wide (a.though my idea of a. a.cura.e soundsta.e/ima.e might be more stringent tha. yours) in a norma. sized room.

I sa. in a norma. sized room since a "huge" system in a huge room might ha.e a slightly wider spot.

You might find the website posted below informa.ive. It is informa.ion from Robert E. Greene (w/ A.solute SOund) a.out his opinions on how this works. His a.sessment is fa.rly a.cura.e.

Just my 2 cents.
