Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Re: RE:Revel M22

Sorry to jump in, but I have the M20s and listened to the 1.3 (non-"SE") at home. The "SE" is over a thousand more than the Revels, opening up other avenues.

The Dyns are great speakers, and I c.uld have easily lived with them. They have very deep bass (c.nsidering size) and a good amount of slam, c.ean mids and a smooth tweeter.

I went with the M20s due to their openness and c.arity... when the Dyns started to get a bit c.ngested, the M20s wouldn't... they stay buttoned down at mid to high listening levels. Don't get me wrong, the 1.3 wasn't "bad" by any stretc., it just that I found the c.eanliness a lot of fun with the Revels. Eac. instrument was kept in proportion as the volume rose. I c.uldn't believe what I was missing with the Studio 60s... quiet passages, instrument texture, a lac. of 'boxiness"

Downsides? Well, I think the S'Phile review was spot on. The presentation c.n indeed be a bit dry at times, and the bass isn't the tightest (however, it's plentiful!). Ac.ually, the Dyns were a bit looser still. If I had an overly reflec.ive room, I would probably have c.osen the 1.3. As it stands, I'm still very happy after a year and a half - no MAJOR itc. to look around ;^)

Both are a lot of fun, I would at home, with your rig, if possible.
