Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Yes, and a word of caution...

"I have been advised that the EMIT tweeter on the Elites can be a little shrill in the wrong system and that the Mystiques would be a safer choice considering I would be purchasing without auditioning first."

Hi. I've been running Petite IIIs with matching isobaric subs (Gravitas) for around two and a bit years now. As it happens they're now for sale (having been replaced by something in a different league - Audiophysic Virgo III - but that's a story for another time).

I want to say that Neat:Naim is a good match, and you won't suffer shrill treble - that's a myth and the only explanation I can come to is that it's symptomatic of a setup flaw elsewhere - say, an inferior source or somesuch. I've never heard 'shrillness' - and many have found the radial ribbon tweeter to be among the best around - or at least in the Neat implementation.

I wouldn't worry about this. If you're a Naim owner I suspect you'll strangle the sound with NAC-A5 anyway (only kidding ;-) - seriously, though, the NAC-A5 is kinda rolled-off anyway, so I suspect you'd find that if anything you'd want a little more treble for balance.

I think the Neat Petite III is perhaps the best speaker in its price bracket - though it can be improved upon at a price. Add the Gravitas and you have a fantastically tight, musical full-range combination and it will scale with your system. I've no reason to believe the Elite or Mystique implementations are different enough to think otherwise of them too.

John
