Really liking my 'little speakers' - Energy RC-Mini's

I've owned a lot of medium priced bookshelf speakers in my office/pc-gaming setup over the years. Kef, PSB, Monitor Audio, Infinity, etc. I switch'em out every year or so just for fun and to try something new.

About six months ago I decided to try something a little different - my first real 'mini' speakers. Speakers that don't even pretend to have bass and MUST be subwoofed. I found a good deal on a pair of Energy RC-Mini's, about 7.5" high, 5" wide and 6" deep. Tiny. And with beautiful real wood cabinets. Bought a nice 'mid-fi' Energy sub for half price on Ebay to go with them.

Know what? This setup sounds great. Bass, obviously, is in a whole other world from a 'regular bookshelf speaker'. And the sound is big, open, very clear. When I'm flying a campaign mission in Falcon 4.0 with my online Squadron pals their voices sound like they are right in the room.

And the very small, but elegant (they do some amazing woodwork on these for the price) speakers take up next to no space sitting on top of a pair of little bookshelves.

I've had 'hi-end' 3-piece systems before and really liked them (stuff like 'PMC+REL') but this is my first 'mid-fi' 3 piece system. It sounds great and its nice to not have 'mediumish speakers on stands' sucking up space in my small office.

It's a very enjoyable setup. Since I got this setup I've had a bookshelf speaker or two in here now and then (borrowed from friends or other rooms) and they never tempt me to replace this system.
