Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

I have some Chesky binaural recordings. Their soundstages sit up higher than usual.

I'm not sure why (none of my regular two-channel stereo recordings do this), but these Chesky binaural recordings make the recorded performers seem as if they are sitting up higher (a few feet above me) than usual. It's as if the musicians were playing on a raised platform, mic'd from down below.

Have any idea why this might be ?

This strange "uplifting" soundstage effect takes place with either headphone or speaker listening, so I don't think it has anything to do with room acoustics, etc... And I have read similar testimonies from other people (regarding these binaural Chesky recordings) so I know that I'm not the only one to notice this strange acoustic phenomena.
