I almost typed Preppy, there, heh. Nevermind.
Hey, Peppy. How's it going? I just want to say up front that I wasn't going to post an argument here in your thread, cause that 's not why I cam to AA in the first place. I came here to learn, not to pontificate - and bore people.
But, my sarcastic reptile brain got the better of me, and I did actually post a sarcastic (though reptile free) response in your thread here. A momentary lapse. Our esteemed colleague and resident parabolic genius, Rivervalley817 didn't see it that way, and consequently hurled a number of insults in my general direction, most recently accusing me of being a thesaurus, or using a thesaurus, or some bad thing.
In any case, I tried to 'splain to him what the point of my post, but 817 was way to pissed to listen. You just can't talk to an angry dude using big words.
As I pointed out to 817, what you - Peppy - have done is to commit a millennia-old syllogistic error. An error in logic. Specifically, your premise is wrong. Your argument and conclusion is the same as syllogisms such as:
Birds have wings. Airplanes have wings. Therefore, birds are airplanes
The ground looks flat. Therefore, the earth must be flat.
(I'm being given to understand that this's no longer a good example to use, because the number of people who firmly believe that the earth is flat is growing exponentially).
Back in our cave man days, homo sapiens's thought that eating the heart of a lion would make you as strong and fearless as a beast. That kind of logic continues in our species to this very microsecond. Your premise is an example of it.
Here's the deal. Whatever sonic characteristics a musical instrument or instruments have - that's what an audio device should strive to reproduce. That's its job. What we don't want is an audio device - especially a loudspeakers - adding its own awfulness to the sound. And, every loudspeaker in existence has tons of it. It's own glare, harshness, distortion, "bitingness". Those things are painful to hear. Most people don't need audio devices that add and induce their own pain - in addition to whatever's already in there.
But, we're all members of an ape species known as homo sapiens, which has demonstrated a remarkable - truly remarkable - knack for mucking things, and being just amazingly perverse. Perversely perverse.
So, no doubt, there are plenty of those who seek out and demand the aforementioned harsh, artificial, shouty, penetrating, "biting", painful sound. The ongoing history of certain speaker makers attests to this.
Never fear. There're plenty of harsh, shouty, "biting" speakers available to accommodate your bad-land needs. Pretty much any PA speaker array will bite your head off. If you want to feel the pain, they've got you covered.
Special bonus- usually cheaper, easy to drive, highly efficient...and LOUD.
All the "bite" you'll ever need.
