General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

RE: I couldn't care less

Sorry if I offended you somehow.

For the convenience of others reading this thread, here is your comment which partially prompted my questions, along with the questions which I asked:

"Based on some educated guess about the values of the crossover components I see that their calculated transient response is not so different from the theoretical best of the John Broskie article."

My questions were:

******
Why did you model them, instead of measuring their actual performance?

What evidence do you have to support the audibility of "phase-flatness"?

Thank you.

These are not "designed to ignite flames". They are legitimate questions about audio.

It is puzzling that you would "model" the performance of speakers which you own, instead of actually measuring them. It would be much more useful to learn how they actually perform. It would be yet even more useful to compare their actual performance to your model, and post both.

With regard to the audibility of "flat phase" crossovers, your suggestion of connecting a battery to a vintage Klipschorn is off-base. The time difference of hearing a click from the woofer, mid and tweeter isn't related to the crossover design, but rather to the path length difference among the drivers. The tweeter (which I think was an Electro-Voice T35 variant), is over a foot ahead of the mid horn driver, which itself is ahead of the output from the folded woofer horn. These are separate issues from the phase alignment of the crossover.

I look forward to your informative reply.
