RE: Recording

Awesome post - thank you.

And to the big BANG statement you make at the end.

"What sound image do I want to present?"

And there it is - the ART OF RECORDING. You're choosing what kind of presentation you want to provide to the 2-channel listener. It's more akin to a painting of a location, rather than a photograph. And even two photographers can get a strikingly different interpretation of a space with filters, depth of field and other camera settings.

In my head, there are three groups working in concert recording a live event... The musicians, the room, and the recording engineer.

As far as a 2-channel listening experience goes, you're not just philosophically but *technically* "part of the show".

For a discussion downthread, have you done any work in orchestral halls? Any insider information on the most common approaches used?

Anyways, thanks for chiming in. :-)

Cheers,
Presto
