I also have owned and have listened to various Fried and IMF products, most of which I have loved. i would dearly loved to have the Model Q as I heard it at Bel Air Camer and HIFI in Westwood CA. i would still own that one.
I sat in front of Monitor III (improved) and the Fried RSPM IV, nearly identical speakers with some extras on the IVs. Both were flat to 16Hz and out to 25kHz, with imaging/soundstaging & dynamics in the amazing category. Also, the Model H sub/sat system that was the pinnacle. Listening far off to the side only made it seem that you were in that position hearing the individual musicians and instruments.
The Model RII was also a spectacular imaging device with excellent transient response but only plumbed to ~35-40Hz, rolling off gently. Then I got a pair of Rogers LS3/5As that I wish I never unloaded. try as I may, mating a sub was unsuccessful due to its 100Hz hump which made it seem full range. i suppose that a parametric eq could have solved that dilemma.
SO I bought a pair of Spendor S3/5s, the descendant of the LS3/5a
