The drivers are old and I'm sure had foam surrounds. The old foam deteriorated just like your pictures. There's a good chance the rest of the driver is OK. Newer foam surrounds seem much longer lived. I have some 18" woofers with foam surrounds that are still OK(hope this comment doesn't jinx them).
