Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

RE: Ex Machina, a pro audio active monitor company, does use Valchromat and makes a selling point out of it.

Thanks John. One of the systems I was thinking of building is the SEAS KINGRO4Y MK3 which is also a 3 way with a coax mid/tweeter. Although I'd redesign the enclosure for better vibration control(keeping frontal dimensions the same) and getting the amp out of the box to minimize microphonic affects on the amp.

I investigated further and they claim Valchromat is 30 % stiffer than MDF but more importantly 3 times as stiff. If true it sounds like a great material especially since it comes in multiple colors that run through the material making finishing simple. I wonder how using it with constrained layer damping would work.

Plus their own speakers are not awesomely priced and measure superbly. I'd love to hear a set. My slight worry is wile they are dead nuts flat, that can lead to brightness as the dispersion narrows but the power response stays relatively level. That's why a flat response but with the flat line slopping slightly can sound more balanced.
