I purchased a pair of ATC SCM50ASL in 2007 or so (pre Brad repping the line). I went to audition them and I was enthralled with the midrange. I had never heard anything like it. I purchased them, set them up and I could never get them to sound right in my room. I always felt they were too bright and, imaging wise, I was in the balcony looking down on the orchestra. They were set up properly. Brad even commented on an ATC Forum that I was one of the few who did set them up with the proper acoustic treatment.
On top of everything, One of the speakers blew and when I followed the advice of a repair shop in Nashville authorized by the company, I promptly blew the other one. I had to ship them back to England for a six month repair. Having said the ATC was very accommodating, helpful and apologetic. They even gave me a pair of the small bookshelf speakers to make amends.
I would like another go at them sometime. For 20 years I had the Infinity RS1b which the ATCs replaced. Perhaps my expectations were colored by that speaker.
Good luck in your journey. Speaker choices are so personal.
Craig
