Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

RE: Better drivers and crossovers

Wish it were that simple. As we learn more about how to build better drivers(and crossovers) cabinets become more important sonically as resonances in cabinets become easier to hear. And cabinet resonances can be very poor at certain frequencies. Compare the surface area of a cbinet to the speaker drivers. It's way bigger. And a resonance in a cibinet is obviously a distortion.

Plus given the detail of your home built example I suspect your cost comparison is way oof. If you are saying the list part of parts equaled the price of the Boston Acoustic speakers you seem to have left foo the cost of labor, a significant cost. Perhaps you need to supply more detail about your build.
