Hi,I had been sitting on a not at all bad pair of 1960s-1970s KLH Model 20 loudspeakers, which was their top-of-the-line from about 1965 on. But I am losing my workshop space, and so I have put them up for sale in various places.
Regardless of that, I want to share the concept I worked out for re-using the cabinets with modern drivers, and making it a 3-way.
This concept might require a new front panel or at least some decent router skills, so, either you are good at that, or you have to hire a woodworker.
(1) Morel makes a "Twee-Mid" module (TM4055): A 2-inch dome midrange and a 1-inch dome tweeter on a shared round faceplate 5.64 inches in diameter.

The module does not include any crossover function.
(2) Parts Express also has a Acoustic Research 12100330 Replacement Woofer 10" that might be a good fit, and it is designed for sealed enclosures, and how special is that?

(3) If you can't design and build your own crossovers, Solen in Montreal will design it for free if you pay them to build them. There are also other design/build crossover options.
The photos are of the pair I am selling in various places. Just to show that I think my substitutions make a lot of sense.
In any event, I hope someone with the time and energy builds this, and lets us know how it sounds!
John
