Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

RE: Density of Sound is an issue

I've had the active and passive ATC two-ways and the passive three-ways. The actives are much better. The ACM 19 (or whatever) can be spectacular. But they still sounded like "speakers" after I grew accustomed to the ESLs.

(I am not sure, but I think the mass of an entire 63 ESL diaphragm might be less than that of most 1" dome tweeters... yes, I think think that is what the main key to the ESL sound is, along with the magnetic force being extremely uniform and able to act on a very large area thanks to the planar configuration.)
