Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Old tricks new daugs?

There were many Marks commercial built or kit or speaker house brand that used the Scanspeak combo of 18w8545 mid bass and 9900 tweeter.

The North Creek version was head and shoulders above vast majority with Wilson Bench commercial and Bamburg BESL kit/house. Heard at both shows and occasionally at fellow builders sound room.

Too many of the the others overlooked or didn't catch the 3.5k-ish resonance peak and 800 hz hump of the 8545 PLUS the bit of trickyness of the first Gen Revlator 9900
Edge Bite, Sizzle, but lots of bass.

None of that was present in the Nrth Creeks. Solid Refined Tight, articulate but smooth, No Bloat
In both crossover and cabinet construction details and implementation top notch

As to glue/sand. It has been "a thing" a couple times over the decades. Done it multiple times. Too many were a curse than a blessing. When done right in right proportions and temp humidity it works okay

BUT when not all the parts are right, puddling/separated layers that NEVER. Seem to cure, varied thickness, sticks cures on tools and skin quicker than you can finish. And if you apply before cut panels, dulls tooling FAST

A better solution of same concept was a nonSlip coating for walkways and decks, that even had specialized roller blanks to loft and layer significant coats. First we're more like epoxy grit, and now 10 plus years it is flacking in some test mules I have. Was hell on tooling if you needed to change driver mount. The follow on was more like a vulcanized paint GRIT combo. 4 years seems same.

After all that, I would recommend buy some product like No-Res or the like. I enjoyed my time with it all, but results were often variable in effectiveness
