hahax,
Much like you | many others I've always loved said licensed | closer to the true spec'ed BBC types of LS 3/5As as well, hence coming back from Japan in 1984, with a pair literally under my arm during the flight home.
And while they'd never be accused of being a very dynamic speaker | when it comes to the purity of notes | vocalist rendering | actual pitch | timbre and tonality of acoustic instrumentation are all amongst the purest | rawest I've ever laid ears on, bass hump and inability to be played loudly and all, I've chosen to always own a pair.
As hinted at in my inmate system section, I've owned the original Rogers ( circa 1978-84 ) | Chatwell ( circa 1986-93 ) | KEF ( circa 1993-95 ) | Harbeth ( Gold Edition | circa 1994-2000 ) LS 3/5As | Harbeth original HL-P3 ( circa 1994-97 ) of which during said periods spent with these makes, I've to realize I miss the Harbeth version the most, but then I've to admit to my fondness of Ebony finished speakers as an absolute essential must have ( own ) when given the option.
