Under the impression?
If I were to set up a hard crossover frequency with my Velodyne DD Plus there is absolutely no frequency signal or bleed past the selected set point, confirmed audibly and measured graphically. As you describe, "a brick wall." I also found this to be true using a number of other subwoofers with simple basic adjustments.
DD Plus offers a twenty minute Auto EQ of customizable crossover parameters within a region of my choosing, of six discrete frequency bands between 100 and 35Hz. The resulting parameters can then be manually adjusted to taste.
