RE: Do I recall that early LS3/5A crossovers included transformers?

The specs for the LS3/5a spec values for all crossover parts and test pass specs for the KEF drivers(most of which didn't pass and were sent back to KEF). But the overall frequency spec and especially the balance between the woofer and tweeter still weren't close enough for the BBC so the crossover included multi tap transformers(actually autoformers I believe) to achieve the relationship of woofer tweeter the BBC wanted. I guess they found this simpler than building each crossover individually choosing parts until the desired result.

The most important factor in a final design BBC speaker was speaker to speaker uniformity so that you could randomly pick two speakers and get a really good stereo pair.
