My Eton-Fountek build is 11.25 inches high, so it can be done.
My proposed Purifi 5.25-inch woofer/ smaller RAAL ribbon build should be able to fit in a cabinet 12 inches tall.
AFAIK, most of Jim Salk's builds are based on 6.5-inch woofers, but he should be able to scope down a bit for you.
Yes, the SB Acoustics Ara cabinet is 15.4 inches, but that again is based on a 6-inch woofer, not a 5.25-inch woofer. What the Ara has is the advantage of kit pricing, with a finished cabinet available at reasonable cost.
