Most commercial speakers sound coloured and tubby because their cabinets are not inert. Cabinets area big part of the overall sound, together with the drive units and crossover. The BBC optimised the cabinets and the crossover - their units were good but not high end. That's what made the reputation of the LS3/5A.
Fine to look for LS3/5A clones and compare them. But some are getting very expensive. You may not be that far away from truly inert cabinets made of heavy aluminium like Magico A1 and Piega 311. That would be a significant step up.
