I'd have to ask Laurence about that, because I'm not so sure it is -- the tubes are designed to completely absorb the back wave.But one thing to know is that it's not only used for midranges and tweeters -- the Nautilus and now every Vivid Audio speaker has them right down to the bass drivers. In the Giya series, if you look at that curly top and imagine undoing the curl, it would be a massive tapered tube.
