Totally agree about the vocabulary. And Holt was the father of us all, although he has made some mistakes over the years. Thirty years of audio nit picking, so to speak, have made folks more aware of small imperfections and distortions.
As far as being different speakers, they both use the same tweeter and crossover and unless there was a malfunction, I'd expect very similar sounds. And as I said in my other post, I owned those large Advents when they were new and noted that gray, grainy treble quality on violin and other recordings.
I suspect also, that Reina was far more used to hearing speakers with excellent sounding treble than Holt was at the time. Holt had no trouble distinguishing the excellence of the KLH over the Advent. Still, at the time he was also recommending the Altec A7 and the Dynaco A25. Don't get me wrong, the Altecs are nice and one of these days I'll get mine out of storage. Dynacos, OTOH, I would not care to use today as they are outperformed by many more transparent and inexpensive speakers.
