OK, I understand what you're saying. I think I'll still try it though, because I have a dealer who will let me bring the AV-8's home for a few days. Someone on AA also very kindly offered to ship me his Eico HF-81, so I'll get to try the Paradox with that amp too. AFAIK, that's about 17 wpc. Let's see where I end up, at this point I'm as interested in the exploration as in the final destination. The Paradox is 8 ohm nominal / 7.2 minimum, so that might contribute to their sounding better with low powered tube amps than other 8 ohm 88 dB 5" woofer mini-monitors.> Sound will come out, and so would it if you hooked up one of those self powered Birthday Card amps (I know, I've done it), but it ain't hi-refined/hi-resolution unless one is willing to settle for significant short comings.
Could you describe what the shortcoming would be, specifically? That way, I'll know what to listen for. I'm pretty new to all this, and I've probably made that amply clear a long time ago.
Oh, and one more question for you, Edp - what's the best $200 tube amp that sounds better than my...... *grin*
Thanks for your help so far.
