there are excellent sounding used vintage speakers that can be found at audio dealers, thru craigslist, e-bay, the AATrader listings etc. you can get a great sounding pair for under $1,000 and a good sounding pair for under $250 with patience and luck. some brands to consider are altec, electrovoice, jbl, infinity, epi, genesis, klipsch, a/d/s, dahlquist, dcm, ess etc etc, and if you don't like a pair of used speakers enough to keep them you should be able to sell for the same price. check the vintage forum here, over to the right and down a row, as per a previous suggestion, for more info,
