Back in the 70s, AR actually made a solid state integrated amp that did about 50 to 60 w/ch. I bought one back then to drive my large Advents and it worked superbly with them, a great match. Of course it was actually made to complement the AR speakers of the time like the AR3as so it would be a good match if you could find one in reasonable shape, though I suspect after all this time that is highly unlikely.
I eventually replaced the AR integrated with a Hafler pre-amp (I think it was the DH-100 though I can't remember the model number for certain) and a Hafler DH-200 power amp. I think someone is still making an amp based on the old DH-200 design so that could be a possibility.
Otherwise I'd go for something similar to the amp designs of the 60's and 70's so vintage amps like Dynacos would probably be a good match and some of the long running amp designs from people like McIntosh would also be a very good match.
