heya mb-i managed to get a stable image out of my horns (community 90x40's on a pair of altec 614 cabinets) by taking out MOST of the toe in-- they have just the most minute bit-- i suffered with tight toe in for a while, and finally a friend of mine threw me this nugget. i tried it, and i won't go back!
dunno why it works-- but it did in my room! i also place the speaks about 18" off the back wall and 3' in from the sidewalls to cut down on reflections. i have similar electronics to a degree-- an eico hf87 and a melos tube pre (pretty different.. but it's tube..)- and i have NO complaints! also-- if you have to-- turn your horns DOWN.. i know an awful lot of people who, in their striving for 'detail', burn their ears off! swap your leads on the autoformer (does the heresy have them?)- let it stay for a while and see if you can acclimate to a more 'natural' sound! if you get a chance too-- make sure somebody didn't swap out your capacitors-- i'm not sure heresies ought to have non-oil caps for that very reason-- some people like the 'detail'.. but it can get grainy- so worth a peek!
good luck-- report back!
