I had to do considerable experiments to arrive at what I consider very realistic soundstage with my stereo setup, basically what I learned in the process is that to get a reasonably good soundstage the source of your troublesd are the room and not the speakers, what you need to do is to ensure that your walls and ceiling "do not sing". In very live rooms your walls act as mirrors reflecting and creating additional sound sources and this confuses the soundstage.
